Senior Rainbow Assistance Program's Basic Necessities Program Launch Update.
Senior Rainbow Assistance Program has began to make a positive impact by launching our first program aiming to help those in the LGBTQ community in need. In response to COVID-19, we launched our Basic Necessities Program in April to not only serve LGBTQ seniors but those in the community who are 18+ and have lost their job due COVID or to COVID diagnosis.
Since that time we have have processed 7 applications for our services and been able to raise an additional $1700. We are 20% of the way towards are our goal for 2020 is to be able to provide assistance to 35 applications which we can do by meeting our fundraising goal of $10,000. Other successes include receiving our first employer matched donation through the Bright Funds platform and our first monthly recurring donation.
Our program has provided members of the LGBTQ community with assistance paying their Gas and Electric bills and providing them with funds to be able to purchase their own groceries. Our applicants have been referrals from other LGBTQ focused nonprofits agencies such as AgeOptions, the Center on Halsted, and Howard Brown.
